Gingerbread support for divorcing parents

19th January 2015 by

For many, the first port of call for expert advice on divorce should be a divorce lawyer. Experienced legal practitioners will hopefully ensure a divorce settlement is the best that can be achieved and that the best interests of any children are upheld.

Divorce solicitors can advise on issues such as finances, children arrangements and division of property, as well as making sure all details of the divorce petition are correct and not likely to be held up in court.

If you need advice on any legal aspect of divorce in Brighton, why not talk first to Healys’ family and matrimonial team. To arrange a call back, please fill in the short form by clicking on the button on the left hand side of this page.

Legal support is not always enough

You can have the best divorce solicitors in Brighton, but once the decree absolute is finalised, their advice won’t necessarily help you as you move on with your life. So, getting help and support is crucial.

Gingerbread is a national charity which provides practical support for single parents and campaigns for their rights and those of the family.

The charity’s foundations were laid down when, in 1918, Lettice Fisher set up the National Council for the Unmarried Mother and her Child (and for the Widowed or Deserted Mother in Need). In 1970 Tessa Fothergill set up a self-help group for people who, like her, had suffered a marriage break up and were struggling with lone parenting.

When Tessa’s story was featured in the Sunday Times, the response from other single parents was so great that she set up the charity Gingerbread.

In 2007, Gingerbread merged with The National Council for One Parent Families and the organisation became known for its mix of high-profile campaigning, alongside respected support services and outreach for single parents.
