International Women's Day, 8th March, was celebrated across the globe over the past week. Here in Brighton, the biggest female-led event was Making Herstory, a show-stopping celebration of Women in Business, organised by Healys LLP.On a wet and windy Thursday afternoon, over 170 women from across Sussex travelled to Brighton Palace Pier to Make HERstory. Among these attendees were Zoe Lyons, Lynne Parker and Katherine Atkins of Funny Women. Funny Women is a female-led network of comedians, who ran a workshop, hosted a panel discussion and ended the day with a HERlarious comedy show.As guests arrived, they were offered a free drink from event sponsors, Brighton Gin, an event-themed pink wristband, and other goodies including purple candyfloss. Stephanie Prior from Healys LLP, who had organised the event, kicked the afternoon off by welcoming her guests with an opening speech, in which she highlighted that behind every successful woman is an army of women, encouraging guests to support one another. From the moment everyone sat down, they were engaged in a hilarious workshop "Don't sell yourself short". This saw tables working together to repurpose everyday objects into something new, which were then presented to the rest of the room.Next, there was an expert-led panel discussion. This panel featured Sussex' leading business-women from a variety of organisations including: Eleanor Richards, Insolvency Partner at Healys LLP, Anne Ackord, CEO of Brighton Palace Pier, Kathy Caton, Founder of Brighton Gin, Carlene Jackson, CEO of Cloud 9 Insight, Rachel Pearce, Tax Director at MHA Carpenter Box and Emily Groom, Wealth & Investment Director for Investec. The panel was live streamed directly to the Latest TV website from Brighton Palace Pier, which was lit up purple in commemoration of International Women's Week. This colour symbolises the justice and dignity that International Women's Day celebrates. The afternoon ended with a traditional British fish 'n' chip supper, whilst Katherine Atkins and Zoe Lyons performed live comedy acts. Finally, guests were invited to attend an after party at My Brighton Hotel's Merkaba bar for cocktails and a charity raffle. All proceedings of the raffle went to the Purple Community Fund and Rise, which both support women in need.Healys began the Women in Business network as a way to tackle workplace inequality and provide a space for women to interact with, support and learn from one another.

John Healy, Chairman at Healys LLP said:

"As modern corporate organisations with high standards, we appreciate that our teams have worked exceptionally hard to get to their positions. Each team member has their own story and individuality. This is something all organisations involved embrace and we think that International Women's Day is the perfect platform to give women in business the opportunity to celebrate this."
