The first Cyprus Gaming Show took place at the Hilton Cyprus on 20th and 21st September 2017. It was well attended with over 150 registered delegates, speakers and sponsors. Healys LLP was a strategic advisor to the Conference.David Schollenberger Chaired a panel on the Opportunities and Challenges of the Cyprus Integrated Casino Resort. Panellists participating were Philippos Katranis, Head of Procurement for the Republic of Cyprus and Project Manager for the ICR, Andy Choy, Melco International Development (operator of the ICR), Simon Oaten, Partner, Head of Gaming, Deloitte, LLP, and Soteris Scholaris, Principal, Scholarios Consulting.The panel expressed the view that the ICR would bring many opportunities for contactors, designers, developers, suppliers and service providers and provide employment to Cypriot nationals and residents. It will provide a strong boost to the Cyprus economy, the largest investment in the tourist sector in the country's history and another source of tax revenue.Challenges arising from ICR include be sourcing and training qualified employees for the ICR, protecting problem gamblers and the vulnerable, and the building of cooperation and a good working relationship between the regulator and the operator.Healys LLP has been active in advising the Republic of Cyprus government as part of a consortium of advisors in relation to the ICR project, being assigned the role of Legal Advisor.
