Healys Partner Gary Wainwright takes on the London Marathon in aid of Kidney Research UK

The London Marathon returns to the city this Sunday 2^nd October. Along with an expected 40,000 participants our head of Commercial Property Gary Wainwright will be competing and raising money for charity.Last year, Gary was diagnosed with stage 3B Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). CKD is a serious condition that cannot be treated or reversed, and if left unchecked can lead to kidney failure, dialysis or organ transplant. Careful management is therefore necessary in order to slow down or halt further progression of the disease, and living with CKD requires significant changes to both lifestyle and diet.Gary has been determined to not to be beaten by this diagnosis. Despite the challenges he is facing, he has nevertheless been training for the Marathon for the last 5 months; and aims to not only complete the 26.2 mile course, but also to raise awareness and funds for Kidney Research UK.Gary said:"My diagnosis with stage 3B chronic kidney disease last summer has led to a significant life change, not just for me but also for my family. People with the condition face numerous everyday challenges related to the changes to their lifestyle and diet, in addition to the chance of requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant. There is also an increased risk of developing other serious illnesses, such as cardiovascular disease and stroke; or of suffering an early death.I am raising money for Kidney Research UK to not only help fund research and treatment, but also to support CKD sufferers with the challenges they face.
